Ashiatsu Therapy

Water Ripple

A Proven Ancient Technique

In the Japanese language Ashi translates to foot and Atsu translates to pressure. Barefoot bodywork traces its origins to over 2000 years ago in India. This ancient therapeutic style has also been documented in other cultures across Asia, Africa and the Pacific Rim. The modern version utilizes bare (and very clean) feet to perform classically western bodywork techniques to improve postural alignment, range of motion and muscle responsiveness.

Decompress & Detoxify

Ashiatsu uses long, flowing strokes that stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and activate the lymphatic system in your body. With the parasympathetic stimulation, you will feel an immense sense of well-being (a “blissed out” state). Through the strokes, your lymphatic system will be flushed, resulting in a rapid release of metabolic waste. The detoxification process from this is most beneficial through drinking abundant amounts of water.

Comfortably Deep

Gravity enables me to deliver up to 3x deeper pressure than with traditional hands-on techniques. Utilizing bodyweight and my foot as a tool, overhead bars support and balance me while I provide broad, consistent pressure that creates structural change throughout the body. By working slowly into deeper layers of the body, I am able to effectively treat multiple muscular and connective tissue conditions through deep, compressive strokes.

Lengthen All Muscle Layers

Ashiatsu has the ability to penetrate into much deeper muscle layers in the body than other forms of bodywork. Not only will superficial muscle layers benefit, but the more interior muscles of the body will also be stretched and lengthened, along with tendons, ligaments and connective tissue resulting in relief from chronic pain and discomfort. Greater range of motion, improvement in posture and an increase in flexibility can also be achieved.

Unwind Your Spine

Ashiatsu movements along the paraspinal muscles and the lumbar region can relieve muscle spasms and open the intervertebral foramen (where spinal nerves pass through). Ashiatsu therapy helps to elongate the spine which gives the nerves more space to move, allowing for a decrease in back tension and pain. Freshly oxygenated blood will also be brought to the area being treated through increased circulation.

Less Pain, More Gain

Ashiatsu strokes are purposefully designed and implemented to give extremely effective deep tissue work. By using a broader based tool (instead of elbows and thumbs) you will experience less discomfort during your session. Not only is Ashiatsu more enjoyable to receive then traditional western forms of deep tissue work, but you will reap the benefits from your session on a profound physical level and potentially for a longer period of time.
